Last Day Of Freedom For Sajjan Kumar Who Surrenders in 1984 Riots Case
Earlier this month, Kumar was sentenced by the Delhi High Court to life imprisonment, reversing the acquittal granted to him by a trial court in 2013. The 73-year-old former MP was then asked to surrender before December 31.
Later, the former MP had sought more time to surrender. In the petition, Kumar, demanded time till January 30 to surrender. A bench of Justices S Muralidhar and Vinod Goel said it saw no grounds to grant him the relief while rejecting his application. He then filed an appeal in the Supreme Court after the High Court dismissed Kumar’s plea seeking more time to surrender. In his plea, he had sought 30 additional days to surrender, on account of settling family affairs with regard to property and inheritance. That too was rejected.
